Conny Aerts

Conny Clara Aerts (born January 26, 1966 in Brasschaat ) is a Belgian astronomer .

Aerts studied mathematics at the University of Antwerp and received her PhD in astronomy from the Catholic University of Leuven in 1993 , where she became a lecturer in 2001 and full professor in 2007 and is director of the Institute of Astronomy. She has also been a professor at Radboud University Nijmegen since 2004 .

She is mainly concerned with asteroseismology , which was already the subject of her dissertation. She was or is involved in Hipparcos and the Corot mission and in the Kepler space telescope .

In 2012 she received the Francqui Prize . In 2009 she received an Advanced Grant from the ERC. She has been a member of the Royal Flemish Academy of Sciences since 2011 and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society since 2010 . From 2003 to 2006 she was President of the Variable Star Commission of the International Astronomical Union . She has been a member of CU7 within DPAC since 2007 and worked with variable stars, moving to the ESA Space Science Advisory Committee (SSAC) in 2009. In 2019 an asteroid was named after her: (413033) Aerts .
