After the castle, the surrounding area belonging to Neuhofen is also called Grubegg.

history

1591 began Ausseer merchant and owner of shares in hammer mills Andrae Grueber the construction of a castle-like building. In 1606 the family received the title of nobility “von und zu Gruebegg” and the palace became the seat of the Gruebegg (later Grubegg) rule. After two fires in the 17th century, the house was rebuilt without its former fortifications.

After numerous changes of ownership, Grubegg finally came to the Hallamt Aussee in 1758, the princely saltworks administration , so became state.

In state ownership, it later housed the administration of the Austrian Federal Forests in the Hinterberger Valley . In 2006, after years of vacancy, it passed into private ownership and, after careful renovation, serves as a holiday home.
