Conrad Blumer

Conrad Blumer (born March 13, 1817 in Schwanden ; † April 1, 1882 in Nice ) was a Swiss textile entrepreneur .

biography

Conrad Blumer was a son of the Glarus textile entrepreneur Peter Blumer (1771–1826), the founder of the company P. Blumer & Jenny, in Ancona, later Schwanden. Blumer was probably the first Swiss to travel to the Far East in 1840 and 1841 to open up new markets. Before long, the company P. Blumer & Jenny from Schwanden was operating several seaworthy ships in the textile trade in Southeast Asia. In 1852 he founded the first bank in Glarus, became district administrator in Glarus and between 1872 and 1878 was the head of the company and the Swiss consul in Ancona .

Blumer was married to Henriette Tschudi, daughter of Abraham Tschudi, a land clerk and merchant, since 1840. Over time, he spent around 80,000 francs on charity. He achieved the rank of colonel in the military .
