Conrad M. Stibbe 1970

Conrad Michael Stibbe (born September 7, 1925 in The Hague - † May 7, 2019 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch classical archaeologist , writer and poet.

Conrad Stibbe studied Ancient Languages ​​and Classical Archeology at the University of Amsterdam . During the Second World War he lived in Amsterdam and belonged to the circle around Wolfgang Frommel . At first he worked as a teacher. In 1968 he was appointed Senior Lecturer in Ancient History at Leiden University. From 1971 to 1986 he was the second director and head of the archaeological department of the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome. He received his doctorate in 1972. From 1977 to 1990 he directed the Dutch excavations in Satricum . From 1986 until his retirement in 1990 he worked as a conservator at the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden.

Stibbe has written numerous books and articles on laconic ceramics and laconic bronzes. Under the pseudonyms Corrado M. Hoorweg or Corrado Hoorweg , he published books of poetry and articles on literature and art. Many of them have been published in Castrum Peregrini magazine.
