Constantin Virgil Bănescu

Constantin Virgil Bănescu (born May 26, 1982 in Târgovişte ; † August 12, 2009 ibid) was a Romanian poet .

Life

Constantin Bănescu was interested in poetry as a child and wrote his first poem at the age of 10 . Many poems have been published in various magazines. He later studied communication science and public relations at the Faculty of Literature at the University of Bucharest .

He published his first volume of poetry in 2000 with the title " Câinele, femeia și ocheada " (The dog, the woman and the lovers). In 2002 “ Floarea cu o singură petală ” followed. These volumes were translated into German by Oskar Pastior . Pastior and Bănescu knew each other personally. In 2003 Bănescu received the Hubert Burda Prize for Young Poetry. His poems have been translated into Slovenian, Spanish, English and German. In 2006, “ Acelaşi cer ce nu e ” was the poet's last volume of poetry.

On August 12, 2009, the poet, suffering from depression and insomnia , committed suicide in his hometown of Târgovişte . He left a four year old daughter.
