Content Management Interoperability Services ( CMIS ) is an open and manufacturer-independent standard for connecting content management systems (e.g. ECM ). The aim of the standard is to enable the interoperability of proprietary content management systems across manufacturers.

functionality

The standard describes an additional abstraction layer for web services based on SOAP and REST , which can then be used for communication regardless of the repository used.

history

The CMIS standard has been specified by the OASIS standardization committee since 2007. The companies involved include leading manufacturers in the ECM industry such as EMC Corporation , IBM , Microsoft , Open Text , Oracle and SAP . Version 1.0 of the standard was adopted in May 2010, version 1.1 followed in May 2013. The companies involved in the specification already integrated implementations of the CMIS interface into their products when version 1.0 was adopted.

List of implementations

A CMIS server stores content and provides access via the CMIS protocol. CMIS clients use the CMIS web service interface provided by the server to access the repository; This means that CMIS clients can be combined with any CMIS server .
