Continental Resources is an Oklahoma City -based US oil production company founded in 1967 with large shale oil deposits in the Bakken Formation of North Dakotas and Montana . She is also active in South Dakota and Wyoming .

Company history

In 1967 Harold Hamm founded the predecessor company Shelly Dean Oil Co. In 1974, he started a series of successful oil wells in Oklahoma. In 1985, Hamm made the largest acquisition in the company's history to date with the acquisition of Petro-Lewis (more than 500 oil and gas wells). In 1990 the company was renamed Continental Resources. In 1991, Continental discovered Ames Hold, one of only six oil-bearing meteorite craters in the United States. In 1993, Continental expanded into the Rocky Mountains . In 1995, Continental discovered what would later become known as Cedar Hills Field in North Dakota. This is the country's seventh largest deposit in terms of proven reserves on the mainland (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) and is also the one where most of the country's oil is obtained through fracking .

In 2007, Continental Resources went public on the New York Stock Exchange .
