Mathieu Neven

Mathieu (also: Matthäus ) Neven (born October 1, 1796 in Maastricht ; † October 20, 1878 in Cologne ) was a Dutch - German entrepreneur.

Life

Neven is considered to be the founder of the Neven DuMont family of entrepreneurs . He emigrated to Cologne in the 1820s, where he set up a shop for colored goods and mining products. In the 1840s he also built a white lead factory and ten years later a metal cement factory.

Neven was one of the signatories of the appeal for the citizens' festival on Neumarkt on the occasion of the king's visit in 1842.

He married Maria Elisabeth Michels (1806–1868), a sister of Peter Michels (1801–1870), who at the time ran the largest cloth and wool trade in Cologne. Her son was the publisher August Libert Neven DuMont .

Neven died in 1878 a few days after his 82nd birthday. The family grave is located in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne .
