Ralph Kirby (born March 18, 1884 in Birmingham , † 1945 in Spain ), also known as Conyers Kirby , was an English football player and coach.
Career
Kirby played from 1905 for the English Southern Football League club Fulham , for which he played 4 league games. In 1906 he moved to Birmingham FC , for which he played his only first division game in his career on September 6, 1906 in a 2: 4 against Newcastle United . He later played for Blackpool FC and the lower-class clubs Worcester City , Willenhall FC and Kidderminster Harriers , before returning to Fulham FC in 1913.
After he had ended his playing career in 1918, he first became a football referee and manager in Spain. In 1922 Kirby was coached by CE Europe , which he led in 1923 to win the Catalan championship . In the Spanish Cup of 1923 they only failed in the final with 0: 1 to Athletic Bilbao . Before he became coach of FC Barcelona in late 1925 and replaced Jesza Poszony there , he was coach of Athletic Bilbao from July 1925. With FC Barcelona, which he coached for 39 games, he won the Catalan championship and the Copa del Rey in 1926 . In 1930 he was again coach of CE Europe, with less success than in his first engagement: In the 1930/31 season they rose from bottom of the table in the Segunda División .
