Copella is a genus of fish from tropical South America thatbelongs tothe tribe Pyrrhulinini ofthe slender tetra family (Lebiasinidae).
features
The slender, laterally only slightly flattened fish are 3.5 to 5 centimeters long. The head is usually pointed, the mouth small and slightly above. An adipose fin can be present or absent. The scales are cycloid and large. The dorsal fin is usually behind the pelvic fins in front of the anal fin. The caudal fin is short and forked, the upper part is larger. The lateral line organ is reduced to a few scales, it can also be completely absent. Copella shows a sexual dimorphism , the males are larger and their fins are elongated. Copella differs from all other slender tetra genera , with the exception of Nannostomus , by the greater distance between the anterior and posterior nostrils. In contrast to Nannostomus , Copella species have a black spot in the dorsal fin, which is always completely transparent in Nannostomus .
