Copris Hispanus (also Black Luster Spanish rhinoceros beetles or Spanish moon horn beetle ) is a beetle art from the family of scarab beetles (Scarabaeidae).
features
Copris hispanus is 19 to 36 millimeters tall than Copris lunaris (moon horn beetle) and Copris umbilicatus . The pronotum is almost at right angles to the front. Both sexes have the striking, large horn on the head shield. In contrast to the moon horn beetle and Copris umbilicatus , the front edge of the pronotum behind the head horn of the Spanish moon horn beetle is outlined (Fig. 1, white arrowhead).
The way of life is identical to that of Copris lunaris .
Habitat and Distribution
Copris hispanus is predominantly Mediterranean and comes e.g. B. in the valley of the river Tagus before. The eastern subspecies C. h. cavolini sometimes penetrates as far as Villach in Carinthia .
Acid rocky subsoil and rich deposits are preferred. Because it is heat tolerant, it can live on sunny, calcareous soils and survive periods of drought.
