Corcovado (song)

Corcovado is a bossa nova piece by the Brazilian Antônio Carlos Jobim from 1960, which refers to the mountain of the same name in Rio de Janeiro . It has been interpreted by Elis Regina and Sérgio Mendes , among others . The song entitled Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars was translated into English . The English text is from Gene Lees .

The piece has become a jazz standard . Miles Davis recorded a version of the piece with the Gil Evans Orchestra on his album Quiet Nights as early as 1962 . The most famous version comes from Stan Getz , who recorded it with Astrud and João Gilberto in 1964 for the album Getz / Gilberto . Astrud Gilberto sings the first sentences in English , as in The Girl from Ipanema . Her husband continues the text in Portuguese and Getz plays a solo.
