The Cordillera Occidental , in German "Western Cordillera", is the western of the two Andes Cordillera in Ecuador , while the parallel eastern one is known as Cordillera Real , "Königskordillere", or Cordillera Central, "Central Cordillera". There are various inner Andean pools between the two.

The Western Cordillera separates itself from the Central Cordillera in northern Peru and runs parallel to it on the territory of Ecuador. In the north of Ecuador and the south of Colombia, the two reunite until the Cordillera splits again into three parts at the junction of Pasto in southern Colombia. The Western Cordillera is geologically younger than the Central Cordillera and on average lower. However, it also includes the Chimborazo , the highest mountain in the country with 6267 m, as well as the Carihuairazo (5018 m) and the Illinois (5248 m and 5126 m).

Mountain ranges of the Andes, known as the Cordillera Occidental , also exist in Colombia and Bolivia .
