The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a nature reserve in the western Everglades near the city of Naples and Bonita Springs in Collier County . The reserve was established in 1954 to protect cypress trees and is home to the largest population of 400 to 700 year old cypress trees in the United States. Overall, the Corkscrew Swamp nature reserve has an area of around 52.6 km² with a wide variety of animal species. This area is administered by the National Audubon Society .
Boardwalk
The boardwalk in the Corkscrew Swamp Conservation Area is 3.6 km in length. The nature reserve shows different landscape areas, the pine highlands, wet meadows, the cypress forest, the swamp area and the Salat Lake.
Wildlife
The Corkscrew Swamp Conservation Area is home to hares , snakes , lizards and a variety of birds . Endangered bird species such as the wood stork also have their habitat there.
