Cornel Feruta

Cornel Feruta (2019)

Cornel Feruta (born August 21, 1975 ) is a Romanian diplomat. From July 25th to December 2019 he was acting director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.

Career

Feruta studied Political and Administrative Sciences, as well as a Master in International Relations at the University of Bucharest .

From 2007 to 2012 he was the Romanian ambassador to the IAEA.

From 2012 to 2013 he worked as Director General for Political Affairs in the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and briefly as Chief of Staff to the Romanian Prime Minister .

In 2013 he was chairman of the IAEA Second Preparatory Committee of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons .

Until July 2019, he worked as Chief of Staff to the late IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano .

Private

Feruta is married and has three children.
