Cornelius Dolabella
The Cornelii Dolabellae were an important branch of the Roman patrician family of the Cornelier .
The family branch has been documented in Rome since the 3rd century BC . The cognomen Dolabella , which all male representatives carried next to the gentile name Cornelius , is derived from the Latin word dolabra , an ax, and means little hoe . At first the name was only given individually, later it became hereditary. In the course of Roman history the family came from several important Roman politicians and generals; eight members of the family held the consulate .
