Cornelius "Neil" Horan (born April 22, 1947 in Scartaglen , County Kerry ) is a suspended Catholic priest from Ireland who has twice been noticed by disturbances in major sporting events.

Horan is the second oldest of 13 siblings and comes from Knockeenahone , Scartaglen. He studied theology in Killarney and Wexford and was ordained a priest in 1973. As early as 1974 he showed interest in the group The Apostolic Fellowship of Christ, which interpreted the Bible fundamentally, and resigned from his priesthood. In 1980 he took it up again.

Horan published a book called A Glorious New World Very Soon to Come, which prophesied the end of the world . He was asked by his church superiors to seek psychiatric treatment. Because of his extreme remarks and publications, he was later suspended.

At the British Grand Prix on July 20, 2003, a run for the Formula 1 World Championship, he ran across the Silverstone circuit during the race . After his spectacular disruption of Formula 1 racing, he was arrested and sentenced to imprisonment.

On August 29, 2004, Horan, who was initially reported to be drunk, ran at the Olympic Summer Games in Athens on the marathon course , where he held the leading Brazilian Vanderlei de Lima and pulled him to the side. De Lima was only third in the end. His attack on the runner de Lima at the marathon, after other spectators pulled him off the track, led to his arrest by the Greek police. He was subsequently sentenced to a suspended sentence of 12 months and a fine of 3,000 euros.
