Cornelius Robinson

Cornelius Robinson (born September 25, 1805 in Wadesboro, Anson County , North Carolina , † July 29, 1867 near Benton , Lowndes County , Alabama ) was an American politician from the 19th century.

Career

Cornelius Robinson was the sixth of eight children of Tod and Martha Ann (Terry) Robinson of Anson County . He later moved to Alabama, where he became captain of an infantry company in 1836 .

After the Alabama Secession in 1861, he was elected to the Provisional Confederate Congress to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of John Gill Shorter . He took up his position there on April 29, 1861 and remained there until his resignation on January 24, 1862.

Cornelius Robinson died in Benton, Alabama in 1867 and was then buried there in Mt. Gilead Cemetery . His son, Cornelius Robinson, Jr., served as an officer in the 46th Alabama Infantry during the American Civil War .
