Cornelius Tlepolemos
Cornelius Tlepolemos was an ancient Greek painter of the first half of the 1st century BC. From the Pamphylia region .
The information about Cornelius Tlepolemos and his brother Hieron comes exclusively from Marcus Tullius Cicero's speeches against Verres . According to Cicero, the brothers had to flee their homeland, Kibyra, because of temple violence. They then occurred in the year 80 BC. In the service of Gaius Verres , who was legatus pro quaestore in Cilicia at that time . In the following years they tracked down works of art for Verres in Asia Minor . As Verres 73 v. Chr. BC became governor of Sicily , they continued their activity until 71 BC. Chr. Continued on the island. The brothers advised Verres professionally and also helped him with his art robberies. Cornelius Tlepolemos' own works have not survived or at least cannot be assigned to him.
