Cornelius Wilhelm Karl Freiherr Heyl zu Herrnsheim (born July 27, 1874 in Worms , † February 18, 1954 in Worms) was a German leather industrialist.

Life

Cornelius von Heyl zu Herrnsheim came from an old family of leather manufacturers in Worms. His great-grandfather Cornelius Heyl was the founder of the Heyl family company Cornelius Heyl AG, Lederwerke . His father was Cornelius Wilhelm von Heyl zu Herrnsheim . After graduating from high school in Worms, he studied law at the universities of Heidelberg, Berlin, Leipzig and again in Heidelberg. In 1893 he became a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia Heidelberg . After his doctorate as Dr. jur. In 1898 he joined the family business in Heidelberg. After completing technical and commercial training, he became junior boss in 1902 and later as deputy to the senior boss, head of the plants. From 1923 he was President of the Board of Heyl AG . In addition to the leather works, he owned large estates. He took part in the First World War as a major in the reserve.

Von Heyl was chairman of the supervisory board of the AG for the construction of cheap apartments in Worms and the GmbH for the non-profit procurement of housing facilities in Worms, deputy president of the Worms Chamber of Industry and Commerce , chairman of the industrial association and the employers' association in Worms as well as the antiquity association and the Kunsthaus Heylhof foundation in Worms.

Von Heyl was also a member of the board of trustees of the Institute for Leather Research and the Kaiser Wilhelm Society for the Advancement of Science and a member of the board of directors of the Society of Friends and Sponsors of the State University of Giessen and the University of Heidelberg. He was chairman of the Hessian Gustav Adolf Association , member of the German Evangelical Church Congress and board member of the Hesse regional group of the German Society for the Promotion of Evangelical Theological Science.
