description

Cornhill House extends between West George Street and West Regent Lane in central Glasgow. The four-story building is designed in the style of French classicism . The south-facing front is built up irregularly. The elaborately designed round arch portal on the western part of the building is striking . Above the fighter , pilasters carry an entablature with a crowning triangular gable . The frieze is richly ornamented. The relief keystone is surrounded by figure reliefs in the spandrels. The structure is more simply taken up in the triple window on the floor above and repeated above the canted opening on the left end.

Flanking columns with ornamented capitals on the eastern portal support a balcony. On the ground floor there are round windows framed with ornamentation on the left and round arched windows on the right. On the upper floors, on the other hand, there are only elongated windows of different sizes, which are crowned with differently designed cornices . Both stylized triangular and segmented gables can be found. Friezes run below the final cornice . The extended mansard storey, designed with short dormers on the right , sits on top. The roof is covered with slate.
