Cornifesto Tinto

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cornifesto Tinto is a red wine variety . It is cultivated in the north of Portugal in the areas of Dão , Douro , Beira Litoral , Beira Interior and Alto Trás-os-Montes . It is also grown on a small scale in South Africa. The variety sprouts late and produces rather light red wines . Due to its deep dark color, however, it is one of the varieties, albeit the less important one, for port wine . It is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.

A check by means of DNA analysis showed that the grape variety is a cross between the varieties Cayetana Blanca x Alfrocheiro Preto Cornifesto is related to the varieties Malvasia Preta , Mouraton , Periquita and Camarate due to the same crossing partners .
