Corrachia leucoplaga is a rare species of butterfly from Costa Rica .
features
butterfly
The species reaches a wingspan of about 35 millimeters and a body length of about 15 millimeters. Body and wings are colored slate gray, the wings with white markings. The forewings have a straight front edge, their outer edge is rounded. The hind wings are elongated elliptical and reach about the length of the fore wings. The front wings have a wide, white, slightly bulged transverse band in the middle, which extends forward to the subcosta. It is accompanied on the outside by a blurred, dark band. In the male it is shortened to a whitish-gray discal spot. The wing has a small white spot near the apex on the front edge. The hind wings have a row of darker, crescent-shaped spots on the outer edge, their underside is a monochrome gray. The antennas are clearly culled and relatively short.
egg
The eggs of the species are short cylindrical with a smooth surface and concave indentation around the micropyle , the upper edge is pigmented purple.
Way of life and distribution
The species is endemic to Costa Rica. It lives exclusively in the mountains, in the cloud and cloud forest level , despite the few finds and the small distribution area, it is estimated to be probably not endangered due to its remote habitat. Caterpillar food plant is Myrsine coriacea (Family Myrsinengewächse )
Taxonomy and systematics
Corrachia leucoplaga is relatively isolated, it is the only species of its genus and tribe (monotypical). While some systematists wanted to set up their own subfamily for them, an inclusion in the subfamily Euselasiinae predominates today .
