Hans Stichel

Hans Ferdinand Emil Julius Stichel (born February 16, 1862 in Wronke , Province of Posen , † October 2, 1936 in Berlin-Lichterfelde ) was a German railway official and biologist.

Life

He first attended the Königliche Realgymnasium in Berlin , in order to study philosophy at the Königl in May 1882 . Friedrich Wilhelm University to matriculate. After his father's death, he got into economic difficulties, so that he had to drop out in the third semester (1883). He then began a career as a railway official with the Prussian State Railways and in 1893 became 1st class railway materials administrator. In 1921 he was promoted to chief railway inspector and in 1922 to head of the materials office in the Central Railway Office of the Deutsche Reichsbahn .

Since 1892 he was considered a private scholar and was part-time editor of various insect science journals, for example 1912–1923 editor and editor of the journal for scientific insect biology and the new contributions to systematic insect science . In addition, Stichel was the author of over 100 articles on insects, mainly butterflies , and collaborated on larger anthologies such as Das Tierreich, Großschmetterlinge der Erde, Nomenclator Animalium Generum et Subgenerum, Genera Insectorum and Catalogus Lepidopterum. Some of his works were published by his son Wolfgang Stichel's publishing house . Hans Stichel became an honorary member of various entomological societies and was awarded the title of Dr. phil. hc He described several new butterfly species and subspecies, for example the subspecies pumilus of the Red Apollo . As the author of such descriptions, he was sometimes abbreviated as "Stich."

Hans Stichel was buried in the Lichterfelde park cemetery.
