Corrado Filipponi

Corrado Filipponi (born March 31, 1968 in Zurich ) is a Swiss extreme paddler, world record holder and travel photojournalist.

Career

In 2002 Filipponi got into a kayak for the first time : From Lake Itasca , the source of the Mississippi River , he was the first without experience to paddle the 3778-kilometer-long river down to its mouth in the Gulf of Mexico in 62 paddling days, or 80 days. He describes his experiences in the book " Bach ab ".

He then accompanied the Slovenian ultramarathon swimmer Martin Strel in his swimming world records on the Yangtze in China (2004; 4003 km) and on the Amazon in South America (2007; 5268 km) in a kayak and as a photographer. In 2005 Filipponi sailed the Danube from the Black Forest to the Black Sea .

In July 2010 he set a new world record for the fastest journey down the Rhine (1161 km) in a solo kayak with 7 days, 10 hours and 16 minutes . With that he broke a 21-year world record.

During his activities on the water, he supports SODIS , a process for water disinfection .

Filipponi works as a travel photojournalist all over the world and travels to foreign countries for months. His specialties are Scandinavia, Iceland, Namibia, Cuba, Scotland, Ireland, Patagonia, New Zealand, Australia and the great rivers of this world. Filipponi has lived in Winterthur since his early childhood .
