Correus
Correus († 51 BC ) was a leader of the Belgian Bellovak tribe . He fell fighting against Gaius Julius Caesar's troops .
After his victory over Vercingetorix (52 BC), Caesar had almost completely won his long Gallic War . Together with Commius , the king of the Atrebates , Correus led the next year 51 BC. The last significant rise of some Gallic tribes against the Roman conquerors. For a long time Correus managed to resist relatively successfully. Initially, the pro-Roman were Remer defeated and against the Romans themselves turned Correus a kind of guerrilla tactics to by getting into no major battles and positioned his army in sheltered places. But one of his ambush attacks on troop units that were fortifying on behalf of Caesar was unsuccessful. In the ensuing battle, the courageously defending Correus was defeated; he did not want to flee or surrender and found death fighting.
