Corryocactus erectus is a species of plant in the genus Corryocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet erectus means 'pointing upwards, erect, upright'.

description

Corryocactus erectus grows semi-recumbent to upright, is only slightly branched and reaches heights of up to 1 meter. The slender, cylindrical shoots have a diameter of up to 3 centimeters. There are five to nine narrow, not very protruding ribs . The eight to 18 light, unequal length spines radiating in all directions have a darker base and cannot be divided into central and radial spines. They are up to 1 inch long.

The light red to vermilion flowers are 2.5 to 4 inches long. The light red fruits reach a diameter of up to 2 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Corryocactus erectus is common in the Peruvian Cusco .

It was first described as Erdisia erecta in 1942 by Curt Backeberg . Friedrich Ritter placed the species in the genus Corryocactus in 1981 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Vulnerable (VU) ", d. H. listed as endangered.
