Corryocactus otuyensis is a species of plant in the genus Corryocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet otuyensis refers to the occurrence of the species near the Bolivian town of Otuyo .

description

Corryocactus otuyensis growing columnar with from the base of branched stems and reaches stature heights of up to 2 meters. The dark green shoots have a diameter of up to 5 centimeters. There are eight, fairly sharp ribs up to 1 centimeter high. The 15 to 18 light brown to whitish, strong to finely needle-like thorns cannot be divided into central and radial spines. They are 0.5 to 3 inches long. Sometimes a single, upward or downward, stronger central spine is formed from some areoles .

The short and wide funnel-shaped magenta-purple flowers appear near the shoot tips and are about 5 centimeters long. The spherical, light green, finely needle-like thorny fruits are soft and reach a diameter of 3 to 5 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Corryocactus otuyensis is common in the Bolivian Department of Potosí near Otuyo .

It was first described in 1963 by Martín Cárdenas .
