Coryphantha jalpanensis is a species of plant in the genus Coryphantha from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet jalpanensis refers to the occurrence of the species near Jalpan in the Mexican state of Querétaro.

description

Coryphantha jalpanensis usually forms groups of up to 25 centimeters in diameter. The cylindrical, green to olive-green shoots reach heights of up to 15 centimeters with diameters of 5 to 6 centimeters. The ascending conical warts, which are up to 10 millimeters long, are crowded together. The axillae have white wool and an orange to red nectar gland. The three to four central spines are gray to light brown. One of them is directed upwards and up to 1 centimeter long. The others stick out to the side and are up to 6 millimeters long. The ten to 13 opaque white, radiating, 0.6 to 1 centimeter long radial spines are needle-like, straight and flexible.

The pale yellow flowers are 4 to 4.5 centimeters long and 3 to 4.5 centimeters in diameter. The pointed olive-green and below light green fruits are 1.5 to 2 centimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Coryphantha jalpanensis is distributed in the Mexican states of Querétaro and San Luis Potosí in cracks of limestone rocks in forests and on pastures.

The first description by Franz Georg Philipp Buchenau was published in 1965.

Coryphantha jalpanensis is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Least Concern (LC) ", d. H. not endangered, classified.
