Origin and meaning

The name originated from the Americanization of the German-speaking family name Kastner in the 18th century in the former British colonies in North America.

The first name bearer known today was Georg Adam Kastner, who emigrated in 1748 with his family from Edenkoben in Palatinate via York County , Pennsylvania to what is now Gaston County (then Mecklenburg County ) in North Carolina and on his gravestone "G. ADAM COSTNER DIED 1767 "is to be read.
