Cottonseed Clark

Cottonseed Clark (born April 12, 1909 as Sim Clark Fulks , † January 9, 1992 ) was an American country musician and radio presenter.

Life

In the early 1940s, Clark became a permanent member of the Hollywood Barn Dance from Hollywood . During the 1940s and 1950s he was one of the most popular radio personalities in the country scene on the west coast of the USA. He hosted shows on numerous radio stations and was also the MC of various country stage shows.

He made frequent appearances with Carolina Cotton and starred in the 1947 film Smoky River Serenade . In 1948 he wrote the hit Texarkana Baby with Fred Rose , which was recorded by Eddy Arnold among others .

In the 1950s Cottonseed Clark initiated a number of other shows such as the Country Carnival Barn Dance (from 1948) or the California Hayride (from 1956). Cottonseed Clark was active as a radio presenter for various Californian radio stations until the 1970s . His signature song was the Steel Guitar Rag , which he played at the beginning of every show.

Cottonseed Clark died largely unnoticed in 1992.
