The Hollywood Barn Dance was an American country show broadcast on the medium wave broadcaster KNX in Hollywood , California .

history

The Hollywood Barn Dance was organized in 1943 by Cottonseed Clark , who was still relatively unknown at the time. The show was held live from the CBS-KNX studio with an audience and broadcast nationwide via KNX and later via the Columbia Broadcasting System . From the very beginning, many famous musicians such as Merle Travis , Johnny Bond , Jimmy Walker , Foy Willing and his Riders of the Purple Sage , Maureen O'Connor and Sally Foster performed in the Hollywood Barn Dance. The later producer and A&R manager Cliffie Stone also started his career as a musician here.

Over the next few years, the Hollywood Barn Dance developed into an extremely successful barn dance show, especially because it was the only show of its format on the west coast in the 1940s, alongside Foreman Phillips ' Los Angeles County Barn Dance . The Hollywood Barn Dance soon became a focal point of the country scene on the US West Coast, and every star in the region performed there.

In 1946 the Hollywood Barn Dance moved to the Western Palisaders Ballroom in Santa Monica . More than 3000 viewers attended the first program in the new location and Cottonseed Clark was named best presenter. However, in 1948 the show was canceled. In the same year Clark initiated the Country Carnival Barn Dance with Billy Starr and Jimmy Walker .
