The Cottonwood River is a left tributary of the Dease River in the Stikine region in the north of the Canadian province of British Columbia .

The Cottonwood River has its source in the northern Stikine Ranges . It initially flows in a predominantly southerly direction along the eastern flank of the Tuya Range , turns to the east in the lower reaches and flows into the Dease River on the left between the northern end of Dease Lake and McDame Creek . The British Columbia Highway 37 ( Stewart-Cassiar Highway ) crosses the river below the confluence of Bass Creek and then runs the last 10 km before the confluence of the Cottonwood River in the Dease River south of the river. The river has a length of about 80 km. It drains an area of ​​approximately 900 km² and has an average discharge of 18 m³ / s.

The English term cottonwood refers to several North American poplar species .
