Married people for Christ ( it .: Sposi per Cristo ; en .: Couples for Christ , CFC) is an association of believers in the Roman Catholic Church recognized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity as a spiritual community of lay people . It was founded in 1981 in Manila , Philippines . The movement has around 980,600 members in 76 countries.

history

The movement emerged from the meeting of 16 couples who belonged to the Charismatic Movement . It was recognized by the Philippine Bishops' Conference in the mid-1980s , whereupon their family programs quickly spread. On March 11, 2000, the “Married for Christians” movement was recognized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity and included in the register of associations of believers .

Self-image

The family work is based on the motto “To be leaven and light of the world and to proclaim the good news of the liberation of mankind.” Admission to the movement is initiated with a training program “Christian Life Program”, after admission the members are obliged daily Repeating their loyalty to God and their marriage vows, they promise to support one another. The CFC regularly runs pastoral programs for families, which are supposed to lead to a “ house church ”, at the same time it offers programs to support those in need.

Organization and dissemination

The management body of the CFC is the "International Council" based in Manila. The regional councils are divided into sectors , which are subdivided into chapters (comparable to a religious chapter ) for basic work . The movement consists (as of 2006) of approximately 980,600 members, members of other religious communities count as "assigned members". The CFC is spread across 76 countries in Africa , Asia , Europe , North America , Oceania and South America .

The press media of the CFC are the magazine "In His Steps", which appears every three months, the magazine "Mothers" ( fortnightly ) and the bulletin "Ugnayan".
