Covelo is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in northern Portugal .
Covelo is part of Gondomar County in the Porto District . The community had an area of 11.2 km² and 1626 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Covelo and Foz do Sousa were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Foz do Sousa e Covelo .
