history
The song is one of the first recorded songs on Born in the USA and was the second song on the album to be released as a single. Bruce Springsteen originally wanted to pass it on to Donna Summer , but instead gave her the song Protection , but Springsteen's manager Jon Landau decided that the song should go in the direction of hard rock . It was published on July 31, 1984.
