Cowan Creek is a tidal- influenced ria in New South Wales , Australia that is located in Ku-ring-gai-Chase National Park . This body of water is referred to as a ria because on the one hand it is mainly fed by the Pacific Ocean via the Hawkesbury River and through smaller inflows after rainfall and on the other hand it is a flooded river. The body of water is part of the Hawkesbury Broken Bay River system . The Rias Smith Creek and Coal and Candle Creek flow into the 14 km long and a maximum of 400 m wide Cowan Creek . The Cowan Creek finally merges into the Cowan Water.

The only inhabited place on Cowan Creek is Cottage Point , which is about 38 km from downtown Sydney . The rias of this area offer recreational opportunities and are used by ships and yachts, and seaplanes take off and land on them. Shipping berths are on Cowan Creek on the shoreline of Cottage Point and another in Akuna Bay on Coal and Candle Creek .

The Cowan Creek is a popular area of the anglers. There are boat ramps at Akuna Bay and Apple Tree Bay to lower the boats into the water . The anglers will find good conditions for fishing in the numerous small bays.

Bobin Head , another tourist destination with various facilities, is located at the beginning of Cowan Creek not far from Mount Kuring-Gai .
