history
CRAI was founded in 1973 by a group of retailers from Desenzano del Garda as C ommissionarie R iunite A lta I talia (literal translation: Joint Commissioners Northern Italy ).
After more shop operators from other Italian regions were added to the existing cooperative, this led to the name change to C ommissionarie R iunite A limentaristi I taliani (literal translation: Italian commissioners of the food industry).
In 2003 Crai received certification for developing products under a private label . One of the suppliers under whom Crai sells its own brand products is the Italian rice producer Riso Scotti (as of 2016) .
In the years 2015 to 2016, the association recorded strong growth. In that period 332 supermarkets and 293 in drugstores were opened under the name Crai. In 2017 Crai started selling and shipping groceries online. When developing its own e-commerce , the expertise of the Milan Polytechnic was used .
