Craig G (actually Craig Curry ; * in New York City ) is an American rapper and was a member of the Juice Crew .

Career

Craig G met producer Marley Marl in the 1980s . With him he recorded two singles in 1985, Shout and Transformer . His next solo singles were Droppin 'Science and The Symphony in 1988 , on which he appeared as part of the Juice Crew . Jason Birchmeier from the All Music Guide calls the latter song a milestone in the development of hardcore rap . Craig G then moved from the Juice Crew's house label, Cold Chillin 'Records , to Atlantic Records , where he released his debut album The Kingpin in 1989. In the song The Blues , he accused Cold Chillin 'Records of withholding its royalties. The successor Now That's More Like It placed itself at number 97 of the Top R & B / Hip-Hop Albums of Billboard magazine .

In 2002, Craig G was commissioned to write the lyrics for the freestyle scenes in the film 8 Mile . He used his increased fame to release his third album This Is Now in 2003 , followed in 2008 by Operation Take Back Hip-Hop .
