The dark-chin fruit pigeon ( Ptilinopus subgularis ) is a species of pigeon birds . It occurs in several subspecies on some Southeast Asian islands. Inventory figures of this kind are not known. The species is classified by the IUCN as potentially threatened ( near threatened ), since logging endangers the habitat of the dark-chin fruit pigeon.
Appearance
The dark-chin fruit pigeon reaches a body length of 34.5 centimeters. It is a little smaller than a city pigeon . It is named after the chestnut brown spot on the throat .
The head and neck are pale ash gray. The belly is tinged with green. There is an ocher-colored spot on the lower chest, the size of which varies depending on the individual . However, it is usually relatively large. The under tail coverts are maroon. The top of the body and the tail feathers are strong green.
Distribution area and behavior
The dark-chin fruit pigeon is an endemic species of Indonesia . It occurs on Sulawesi and the neighboring islands of Peleng , Banggai , Mangole and Taliabu . It occurs mainly in the lowlands and inhabits both secondary and primary tropical rainforests . There is no knowledge of reproductive behavior.
