Craigdarroch House

Craigdarroch House is a mansion near the Scottish village of Moniaive in the Council Area Dumfries and Galloway . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The mansion was created by expanding an older building. This is said to have been the Fergussons family home . Based on various date stones, this building could date back to the early 17th century. Although plans by William Adams , who provided the designs for Craigdarroch House, have survived, they do not show the original building, so little is known about it. It was probably a two-story building with an L-shaped floor plan with a stair tower in the interior corner.

Craigdarroch House was built in 1729 for Alexander Ferguson of Craigdarroch and Annie Laurie . The main staircase was remodeled in 1854 and is similar to the work on Capenoch House , which David Bryce was responsible for. The rear wing is not shown on the first map of the Ordnance Survey from 1856. It probably dates from 1889.
