Cratichneumon flavifrons is a parasitic wasp from the subfamily of Ichneumoninae .
features
The ichneumon wasps reach a body length of about 10 mm. They have a black basic color. The antennae of the females are black with the exception of a white band that is halfway along. The antennae of the males are black on the upper side and shimmering reddish on the underside. The visual field of the males is yellow. The forewings have an orange wing mark . There is a yellow longitudinal spot on the side of the male's label . The two front pairs of legs and the femora of the rear pair of legs are red in both sexes. In the female, the outside of all tibia is largely white. The apical end of the posterior tibia is black in the female. The male's tibia is red. The posterior tarsi are black in both sexes. The female's short laying stinger is hidden.
Occurrence and habitat
Cratichneumon flavifrons is common in the Palearctic . Their distribution area extends over large parts of Europe, the Mediterranean region, the Caucasus, Asia Minor, the Near and Middle East and extends in the east to the Russian Pacific coast ( Primorye region ). The species is also found in the British Isles and Scandinavia. The insects are often found on the edges of forests, clearings and hedges.
Way of life
The adult parasitic wasps usually fly from May to August. The species parasitizes pupae of various butterflies. In contrast to other parasitic wasps, the females do not overwinter as adults.

- Panolis flammea - Pine Owl

etymology
The name addition flavifrons is derived from Latin : flavus means "yellow", frons means "forehead". The name refers to the yellow color of the front part of the head of the male.
