In the game, players have to try to throw coconuts into colored cups with the help of a catapult in the shape of a monkey figure and win them in this way.

The game was recognized as a hit game for children in 2015 as part of the Austrian game award Spiel der Spiele . In 2014 it was nominated for Children's Game of the Year at the Danish Guldbrikken and in 2013 at the Golden Geek Awards.

Theme and equipment

The game is a game for children and a skill game in which the players try to throw coconuts into colored cups with the help of a catapult in the shape of a monkey and win them in this way. You can also take cups from your opponents, whoever wins six cups first wins the game.

In addition to the instructions, the game material consists of:

  • four monkey catapults,
  • four game boards,
  • ten yellow cups and four red cups,
  • 36 coconuts and
  • twelve magic cards.

Style of play

At the beginning of the game, each player is given a game board, a monkey catapult and eight coconuts. The cups are placed in the middle of the playing field and the game boards and catapults around them with some space. A yellow cup is placed in each of the red cups and in a game with two or four players, another yellow cup is also placed in the central yellow cup.

Beginning with a starting player, the other players play in clockwise order. The active player places a coconut on his monkey catapult and triggers it, trying to catapult the nut into one of the cups. If the player hits a cup and the coconut remains in the cup, he may place the cup with the coconut in it on his board. The cups won are built up on your own game board to form a pyramid with a base of three cups.

The game ends when a player has six cups in a pyramid on his board.

An active player can also hit an opponent's cup and thereby wins it. He also places the cup he won with the two (or more) coconuts on his board. If a player wins a red cup, he may catapult another coconut into the cup. If, on the other hand, he does not win a cup or only a yellow one, it is the next player's turn. All coconuts that have been shot and that are not in cups are collected centrally and can then be used by all players.

The game ends when a player has six cups in a pyramid on his board. Alternatively, the game ends when all coconuts have been shot and are in the cups. The winner is the player who first owns six cups or, at the alternative end, has the most coconuts in his cups.

Magic cards

As a variant, the game can also be played with the so-called magic cards. At the beginning of the game, each player receives two randomly selected cards that he can use before another player shoots his catapult. In this case, the player must take into account the first card played in his turn, after which the card is removed from the game. There are a total of six different cards:

Magic card Actions
Blind shot The active player must aim and shoot his catapult with his eyes closed.
Target shot The active player must hit a specific cup selected by the cardholder, all other hits count as a miss.
Long range shot The active player must place his catapult at least one forearm length in front of his game board before the shot.
stop The active player must skip a round.
Gust of wind All opposing players may generate wind with this shot in order to influence the trajectory of the coconut.
Double This card is played by the player before his turn and allows him to take another shot after the current shot.
