Creighton's slender- pouch rat ( Marmosops creightoni ) is a species of marsupial that occurs only in a small area near the Bolivian city of La Paz . The species was only described in 2004 and named after G. Ken Creighton, who collected the type specimens and in 1984 wrote the first modern phylogeny of the opossum based on morphological principles .

description

The animals reach a head trunk length of 11.4 to 14 cm, have a 15 to 17.7 cm long tail and reach a weight of 32 to 54 g. The back fur of the animals as well as the top of the head are chocolate brown. There are dark circles around the eyes that do not extend to the nose and the bases of the ears. The ears are dark, hairless and 21 to 25 mm long. The condylobasal length is 32.6 to 35.6 mm. The peritoneum is light brown. The tail, the length of which is about 130% of the length of the head body, is dark gray on the half near the body and the half distant from the body is dark on the upper side and light on the lower side. The tip of the tail is white. The feet are brownish and contrast with the whitish fingers and toes. Females do not have a pouch. The number of teats is nine, four are on the sides and one is in the middle.

Habitat and way of life

Creighton's slim-bag rat lives at an altitude of 1,800 to 3,000 meters in moist mountain forests that are densely overgrown with mosses, lichens, ferns and epiphytes, and in undisturbed secondary forests dominated by bamboo between which there are patches of the original forest. Almost nothing is known about the diet, activity patterns, reproduction and other behavior of the species. It is probably more ground dwelling. Other small mammals in the biotope are the Small Prairie mouse ( Akodon mimus ) Microryzomys minutus from the kind of small Treis rats , Oryzomys levipes from the kind of rice rats , Oxymycterus nigrifrons from the kind of grave mice and each an undescribed species of the chibchanomys ( Chibchanomys ), the Dwarf rice rats ( Oligoryzomys ) and the paramo mice ( Thomasomys ). All belong to the Sigmodontinae of the family of the burrowers (Cricetidae).

status

The IUCN can not provide any information about a possible endangerment of Creighton's slim-pouch rat , as insufficient data are available. It is also found in a protected area, the Cotapata National Park .
