Maria Cremilda Martins Fernandes Alves de Lima , Cremilda de Lima for short (born March 25, 1940 in Luanda , Portuguese-Angola ) is an Angolan children's author.

Life

Cremilda de Lima was born on March 25, 1940 in Luanda, the capital of the Portuguese colony of Angola. After completing school, she completed several teacher training courses, first in Bié in 1962/63 , then in Luanda in 1963/64 . Lima then began to work as a primary school teacher, first in Malange , and from 1965 in Luanda.

education and profession

After Angola's independence in 1975, Lima opened up new opportunities in terms of training and work. In 1977 she moved to a working group at the Ministry of Education, which dealt with the development of a curriculum and the revision of the school books. She was a member of this working group until 1991. At the same time, Lima completed a course in the scientific and pedagogical field at the Escola Superior de Educação de Setúbal in 1987 and a Portuguese didactic course at the University of Lisbon . This was followed in 1992/93 by a pedagogy course at the Instituto Superior de Ciências da Educação in Luanda and further training until 2003 at the Escola Superior de Educação in Leiria, Portugal .

Writing career

Lima began to publish first books for children and young people at an early age, in 1984 the Angolan Writers' Union ( União dos Escritores Angolanos ) took them on. Lima has now published numerous children's books and is one of Angola's best-known children's authors. She herself complains about the lack of circulation of children's books and complains that most of Angola's children “never saw a book”. Lima calls for the creation of a "National Literature Plan"

Several of her books have been translated from Portuguese into other languages, including Spanish, Serbian and Kimbundu .

Awards

Cremilda de Lima was nominated twice for the international Astrid Lindgren Memorial Prize (2008 and 2009). The award, donated by the Swedish government, is intended to honor commitment and services to children's and young people's literature.

In 2008, the Angolan Ministry of Culture honored her with a certificate of honor for her contribution to Angolan children's literature.
