Crepis dioscoridis is a species of plant from the genus Pippau ( Crepis ) in the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

features

Crepis dioscoridis is a one to two year old stem therophyte that reaches heights of 10 to 60 centimeters. The leaves have no glandular hairs. The cups are stalked. The shell is 8 to 12 millimeters in size and hairy. The outer bracts are one third to two thirds as long as the inner ones. The flowers are 11 to 18 millimeters in size. The stems of the cups and the base of the bracts are thickened when the plant is fruiting. The fruits are 3.5 to 5.5 millimeters in size. They have no or a short, thickened beak. The outer fruits are usually broadly winged, greenish-yellow or whitish in color and enclosed by the bracts. The inner fruits are greenish-yellow or reddish-brown in color and have soft or thorny ribs.

The flowering period extends from April to June.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 8.

Occurrence

Crepis dioscoridis occurs in Croatia, Albania, Greece, Crete, in the Aegean Sea and in Turkey. In France and Italy it is a neophyte. The species grows in open forests and garigues . In Crete it can be found at altitudes of 80 to 800 meters.
