Creutzers ground beetle ( Carabus creutzeri ) is a species of the real ground beetle ( Carabus ).
features
Creutzers ground beetle reaches a body length of 20 to 30 millimeters and is one of the largest species of beetle in Europe. Its body is dark brown to black glossy in color and has a reddish-purple sheen on the wing covers ( elytra ) and the sides of the pronotum . The point pits of the elytra are also colored reddish purple. The elytra lie relatively flat on the body, the pronotum and head are built narrow.
Creutzer's ground beetle differs from the very closely related Fabricius' ground beetle ( Carabus fabricii ) mainly in the very long first antennae, which is almost three times as long as it is wide. In addition, the wing covers of Fabricius ground beetles usually have wide, matt emerald green side edges. The ravine forest ground beetle ( Carabus irregularis ) can be distinguished from both by details of the mouthparts.

In Central Europe, the beetle only occurs in south-east Austria , in Carinthia and East Tyrol . He can also be found in Slovenia .
Way of life
Creutzer's ground beetle is found mainly in cooler mountain locations and is classified accordingly as alpine or montane . Its habitat is in mountain forests, where it can be found in dead wood or under loose bark and tree-growing moss mats .
Like most large ground beetles, Creutzer's ground beetle is a diurnal predator that feeds primarily on other insects and their larvae.
