Cricetulodon bugesiensis is anextinct species of the mouse species assigned tothe genus Cricetulodon and known from the Upper Miocene of France .

Body features

Cricetulodon bugesiensis has three molars in each half of the jaw . The anterolophulid of the first mandibular molar is often double, the tongue-sided branch tends to dominate. The anterosinusid of the second mandibular molar is missing, that of the third mandibular molar is poorly developed. The anterolophul of the first maxillary molar is simple or forked, a spur on the lip side is missing. The mesolophid of the first molar may be present, but it is usually absent in the second and third molars.

The anterior protolophul of the first maxillary molar is absent or present, it is present in the second and third maxillary molar. The mesoloph of the first and second maxillary molar is poorly developed; in the third maxillary molar, it is almost non-existent. The anterior metalophul of the first molar, if present, is formed by the mesoloph. That of the second maxillary molar is usually absent and, if present, forms a separate crown or is formed by the mesoloph. That of the third maxillary molar is always present. The posterior metalophul of the maxillary first and second molars is absent or present.

Distribution, fossil finds and systematics

Location of Cricetulodon bugesiensis .

Cricetulodon bugesiensis is known from the late Vallesium of France 9.8 to 8.7 million years ago.

The type specimen with inventory number FSL 65897 is the first molar of a left lower jaw. This was close in excavations 1949 Soblay ( 46 ° 6 '  N , 5 ° 21'  O ) in the department Ain detected.

Matthijs Freudenthal , Pierre Mein and Elvira Martín-Suárez describe the species as Cricetulodon bugesiensis in 1998 .
