Cricetulodon hartbergeri is anextinct species of the mouse species assigned tothe genus Cricetulodon and known from the Upper Miocene of Spain and France .

Body features

Cricetulodon habenbergeri has three molars in each half of the jaw . The first mandibular molar has a two-part anteroconid and a tongue- sided anterolophulid . The anterocon of the first maxillary molar is also subdivided. The mesolophid of the lower jaw teeth fluctuates between missing, short and long, the mesolophid of the upper jaw teeth between short and long, and is never missing. The anterior posterolophule is well developed. The third molars are slightly smaller. The first maxillary molar has three roots .

Cricetulodon hartbergeri is known from the Vallesium of Spain and France 11.6 to 9.0 million years ago.

The type specimen with the inventory number IPMC PEC 585 is the first molar of a right lower half of the jaw. This and another specimen were discovered at the “Pedregueras” site at an altitude of 820 meters in the province of Saragossa ( 41 °  N , 1 °  W ). Another specimen comes from the "Lo Fournas" site near Baixas ( 43 °  N , 3 °  E ) in the Languedoc-Roussillon region .

Named after the zoologist Jean-Louis Hartenberger , Matthijs Freudenthal describes the species in 1967 as Rotundomys hartbergeri . Freudenthal et al . (1998) assign it to the genus Cricetulodon .
