Distribution, fossil finds and systematics

Location of Cricetulodon lucentensis .

Cricetulodon lucentensis is known from the middle Turolian of Spain 7.75 to 7.0 million years ago.

The type specimen with the inventory number RGM 404677 is the first molar of a right half of the lower jaw. This and two other specimens were discovered near Crevillente ( 38 ° 15 ′  N , 0 ° 48 ′  W ) in the province of Alicante .

Matthijs Freudenthal , José Ignacio Lacomba and Elvira Martín-Suárez describe the species as Neocricetodon lucentensis in 1991 . Freudenthal et al . (1998) assign it to the genus Cricetulodon .
